I have worked previously as a behavior coach and counseling intern for youth (ages 2-19) with a variety of diagnoses and behavioral disorders.

One thing I consistently remind both others and myself is that we are human and we are not perfect. We are all allowed to make mistakes, and those mistakes provide opportunities for growth and learning.

The body holds memories and trauma. It also shows us physically when we are overwhelmed, sad, or happy. Our body plays an immense role in helping us release emotions and in making us feel safe. A huge portion of my life revolves around physical health and nutrition. I find that treating mental health is holistic, which includes taking care of our whole body. Nurturing our mind and body promotes healing.

Personally, in how busy we can get as people, I love deep breathing or box breathing. I do not always have time to stop and think of other methods, but a deep breath or two quickly slows my heart rate, lowers blood pressure, and decreases my stress in the moment.

It is more of a concept. Be kind to yourself, not just others. A lot of people, including myself, put friends, family, partners, or the group's needs/wants above themselves. It is so wonderful to have love for others, but we often forget ourselves in the process. It is okay to want things for ourselves.
